West Michigan beer distributor marks milestone with Budweiser Clydesdale parade

MUSKEGON, Mich. – This year marks a remarkable milestone for Tyler Sales Company Inc. as the third-generation family-owned beer distributor celebrates 90 years of business.

The company is celebrating and showing its appreciation to the Muskegon community by hosting the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales.

The Budweiser Clydesdales will parade down Western Avenue in downtown Muskegon, making ceremonial beer deliveries from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 26. The public is welcome to attend. Following the parade, the Clydesdales will be staged outside Hackley Park from 5 to 6 p.m. for up-close viewing and picture-taking. This will be the Clydesdales’ third appearance in the Muskegon area in 10 years.

Tyler Sales Company began in 1934 when Stan Tyler Sr., inspired by the repeal of Prohibition, ventured into the wholesale beer business. With two trucks and his wife as the secretary, the company steadily grew over two decades. When his son, Stan Tyler Jr., came on board in 1958, his passion for the industry fueled its growth. He would later take over the company and introduce Budweiser to West Michigan, making it Tyler Sales Company’s flagship product.

“At Tyler Sales Company, we are dedicated to providing quality products and appreciate new opportunities to support our local communities,” said Jim Tyler, president of Tyler Sales Company. “Being part of the Muskegon community for 90 years, many generations of bars, restaurants, and stores have supported and helped us grow. Bringing the Budweiser Clydesdales to town for this celebration is our way of saying thank you. We look forward to remaining part of the fabric of this great community for many years to come.”

Tyler Sales Company is deeply embedded in the Muskegon community, playing a significant role in sponsoring local events and activities that enhance the area’s vibrancy and success. The beer distributor is a long-time sponsor of Muskegon Parties in the Park, a cherished local tradition for 40 years, and the Michigan Irish Music Festival, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this fall. They also consistently support United Way of the Lakeshore, Muskegon Catholic Schools, Folds of Honor and numerous other charitable organizations within the community.

As a distributor of alcoholic beverages, Tyler Sales Company works closely with local law enforcement, retail customers and community organizations to develop and promote initiatives that drive awareness of responsible drinking by legal-aged consumers and reduce incidents of underage drinking and alcohol-impaired driving.

Today, Tyler Sales Company operates a 50,000-square-foot facility in Muskegon Heights and services over 420 retail customers in Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana counties. The company sells over 750 beverage products from over 50 suppliers, including 15 from Michigan. Tyler Sales Company’s dedicated team of sales, delivery, warehouse and administrative employees have been the hallmark of the company’s success since 1934 by delivering unparalleled service to retail customers.

Across Michigan’s beer and wine distribution industry, women are helping shape the future of our businesses and the communities we serve. As president and CEO of John P. O’Sullivan Distributing in Grand Blanc Township and the third woman to chair the Michigan Beer & Wine Wholesalers Association (MB&WWA) Board of Directors, I’m proud to be part of a growing group of women leading with purpose and perspective. This year is especially meaningful for our company as we celebrate 50 years in business. Reaching that milestone is a reminder that strong local businesses are built over time through dedication, adaptability and the people who make long-term success possible—including the growing number of women shaping the future of the industry. Our work as beer and wine distributors is about far more than logistics. It’s about building resilient businesses that support jobs, give back locally and help maintain a fair and competitive marketplace. From sales and operations to finance, marketing and delivery, women are making meaningful contributions at every level of our industry. Distributors are proud to be local businesses with deep roots. We live and work in the communities we serve, and we embrace opportunities to give back—whether supporting neighborhood events, partnering with charitable organizations or helping local retailers succeed. That spirit of service is integral to our businesses and something we strive to carry forward. Beer and wine distributors also play a critical role in Michigan’s three-tier system, moving products safely and efficiently from supplier to shelf. This system supports competition and gives consumers access to an extraordinary variety of high-quality choices, from Michigan-made craft beverages to well-known national brands. As we celebrate Women’s History Month in March, I’m honored to recognize the many women who help drive Michigan’s beer and wine distribution industry forward. The continued success of this industry reflects the collaboration and determination of the people behind it—and women are playing an essential role in shaping what comes next.
